Real World
Are there important “real world” differences between the things you heard growing up about your employment career, and the reality of what actually happens?
Let’s start by asking some basic employment and career questions:
-
Is there a “right” company?
-
Is it possible to spend your entire career with one organization?
-
Do you have a career plan, and is having one that important?
-
At this stage of your employment career are your dollars and/or position where you
thought they would be?
-
Is it important to know when the highest average income year is for an American
worker?
-
The government put out information stating that a person who turned 45 in 1999
would have a life expectancy of 85; do you know how this information affects your
employment career?
-
Who’s really in control of your employment career, the “SYSTEM or YOU?”
These questions will have a huge effect on an individual’s career, and you need to know why! There are many other questions that make up the “real world of employment”, but the most important question is do you know the difference between what the “system” has told you about employment, and the actual real world of employment? One of the major differences in your employment career will be who’s really in control, the “SYSTEM OR YOU?” How much control can someone actually have? Here are two important factors: Take control of your attitude and know where you’re career is going, then learn and start planning on how you’re actually going to get there. The “RKS: 298” Employment Concept will provide the real world of employment answers and then provide you with the steps on how to accomplish it. For more information see the – Contact us section.
The fact is that most of us actually grew up being lead to believe that there were “right” companies. Basically everyone wants to find an organization that will treat them fairly and provide them with their career path. In the past it did look like there were “right” companies, possibly because your father or grandfather could have spent most or their entire career with one organization. Times change and so do companies, and in the global marketplace today, most firms will be merged, sold or closed within 10-15 years. To complete one’s employment career that now means the most loyal employee will require 4 or more different employers.
The above is a pretty good reason why there is “No Right” companies; however, the main reason is that none of them will ever guarantee anything to the “employee”. The career focal point should always be the “POSITION”, not the company. It is because the only place where you can create the marketability your skill set requires is in the functions of your next position. We all seek to find a company who will provide security, great benefits and higher earnings, but will any company guarantee them to you? NO! There are great career advantages gained by maintaining a skill set that a lot of employers want. It will increase your odds of getting the better opportunities within your present employer, and those outside you company as well.
Do you know what role the “Pyramid Effect of Employment” will play in your overall career? It is a major piece of employment data and information required for you to increase your career odds for success by 25-50%.
Another variable to take into consideration will be the life expectancy of a person. How many additional years may you need to generate income due to longer life expectancy? Statistics say most people will be mobile into their 80’s, maybe 90’s or more depending on their current age. People are living longer and mobile much longer than most of their parents and grandparents. Mobile people spend more money than non-mobile people. Using 65 as a benchmark retirement age set down and do the math and determine how much money it will take to be mobile 25 years beyond retirement. What does all this mean? Clearly it indicates you should get better prepared. A major component is having a skill set that takes you into the future; the more employers that want what you have skill wise the more promising your future employment becomes. On the other hand, if you are someone that has a great skill set that nobody wants – you are in a world of hurt. Check out your marketability by taking our career assessment. Click here
